"What do you eat before you perform?"

I always love answering this question! I think it's important, but also I LOVE to eat.  It's my second favorite thing to do in the world (tied for 1st are singing and teaching).

Currently, I'm in a production of A Christmas Carol at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ! Fueling my body for shows (sometimes two shows in one day for a span of 3 days) is tough.

I have been eating and singing long enough to determine which foods set me up for vocal fatigue.  Here's my list, but it will be different for each person:

I generally avoid: milk products, tomato sauce, soda

I LOVE to eat: salads, eggs, any source of protein, pasta (but not until I'm too full to cause bloating), tea with lemon & honey, WATER!
You'll need to listen to your body to see how it reacts to certain foods/drinks before performing.  Some people are very affected by foods/drinks that are highly acidic (tomato, soda, some fruits).  Others find they aren't affected at all.

Between shows or rehearsals when I have very little time, I'll pick up something from Wawa (of course), or The Dinky Bar & Kitchen (hello truffle mac & cheese...guilty pleasure), The Princeton University Store (grab n' go) or something quick from Nassau Sushi.

If you're coming to see the show I highly recommend Teresa Cafe, Cargot Brasserie, Winberie's, Agricola, Mistral, Blue Point Grill, Elements, Witherspoon Grill or Mediterra.  Princeton has so many good eats!!

Small World Coffee and Jammin' Crepes are partnering with our show to feature Christmas-related food and drinks.  Small World Coffee is featuring the Tiny Tim (peppermint vanilla milk) with a shot of espresso to make it a Scrooge.  Jammin' Crepes has a Plum Good Tiny Tim crepe that looks out of this world!

Go eat, go see the show, go get an after show drink! ENJOY!
Pictures of your good eats are welcome in the comments section :)
